Quick Update On My Trip Progress & Plans for Ireland
Just a week away from the famous Canaval my time in Rio comes to an end. While it is a shame to miss out on one of the biggest parties in the world, I won’t spend too much time sulking about it as I’m on to meet up with an old high school friend. The most exciting part is I get to see him and his wife a mere month before they’re expecting their first child. I get to see them in their last month of sanity!
My flight leaves at 940 PM April 10th from GIG airport in Rio and lands first in Amsterdam at 240 PM April 11th and then gets me to Ireland at 445 PM the same day. It’s a long flight but I’m all for it. Minimal layovers, SHORT layovers, and not an ounce of stomach pain! What more could I ask for?
Ireland Update
Well, as promised this is going to just be a quick update. I wanted to go over all of the places I want to see in Ireland and where they’re located. I’ll provide a picture at the bottom of my list to illustrate where I’ll be going because I would decidedly not be able to accurately describe it with just words. First and foremost, I’ll be with my buddy Eric and his wife Leah in the northern town of Lisburn for a week. From there we’re supposed to go to an amusement park, a nature walk or two, a pub or two(by my request), and hopefully a couple life drawing sessions. Life drawing is something we did together back home, so it would be cool to get to do more of that where he’s living now.
After the first week, I want to rent a car and see some of the rest of the country at my own pace. I’ll have to weeks to see, in no particular order, Monaghan, Dublin, Downhill Strand, Rock of Cashel, Mizen Head, Killarney National Park, Aran Islands, Ring of Kerry, Doolin, Cliffs of Moher, and Great Skellig. I know a lot of that most likely doesn’t mean much to you, but it’s a good mix or nature, city life, a couple islands, seaside cliffs, and, of course, a castle.
I’m currently in the process of finding out where in Ireland my family lived, but some research points to the Flynns, or O’ Floinn as they were once known, having lived in the south of Ireland in Cork county. So while I most likely won’t be able to hit up every place on my itinerary, I have to spend a few days driving around and admiring towns around Cork. The locations of interest are shown below. Unfortunately, I don’t have them labeled but you can get a feel for the spread of locations I’ll be hoping to visit.
There’ll be a post or two more to look forward to, so be on the lookout for a quick recap of Rio, my spending on the trip thus far and an art update.
See you next time.
